\u201cToday, I\u2019m writing the most difficult words I\u2019ve ever had to,\u201d the former Manchester City and Benfica man wrote. He went on to say that wearing the Argentina shirt was \u201ca childhood dream\u2019\u2019 and \u201cthe greatest privilege\u201d he had in football.<\/p>\n
\u201cI defended it with all my heart, with pride, and with a sense of responsibility, knowing what it means to millions of Argentines,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
Otamendi went on to regret Argentina\u2019s defeat at the 2026 World Cup final, insisting he leaves \u201cwith the peace of mind that comes from giving it all.\u201d<\/p>\n
He thanked fans and his family for the continued support through the good times and the bad, and called on the next generation of Argentina players to \u201cnever stop believing.\u201d<\/p>\n
