He also played the role of <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/capitol-hill\/index.html\" id=\"mol-fb4d7620-7fb2-11f1-bf0b-ab37947d335e\">Capitol<\/a> Hill fixer, helping smooth over Trump&#8217;s combativeness and acidity with Senators he was often at odds with.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, he served as an unwavering champion of the President&#8217;s audacious attempt at regime change in <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/iran\/index.html\" id=\"mol-fb4deb50-7fb2-11f1-bf0b-ab37947d335e\">Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Graham&#8217;s passing has raised a pressing question from the Senate cloakroom to the West Wing: Who can Trump lean on as a friendly sherpa now?<\/p>\n<p>SenatorsBill Hagerty of <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/tennessee\/index.html\" id=\"mol-72f789c0-7fa6-11f1-823c-7dc7f6d38c72\">Tennessee<\/a>, Eric Schmitt of <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/missouri\/index.html\" id=\"mol-72f789c1-7fa6-11f1-823c-7dc7f6d38c72\">Missouri<\/a> and <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/tim-scott\/index.html\" id=\"mol-25fde7b0-7fae-11f1-823c-7dc7f6d38c72\">Tim Scott<\/a> of South Carolina are among those closest to the President, a <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/white-house\/index.html\" id=\"mol-72f762b0-7fa6-11f1-823c-7dc7f6d38c72\">White House<\/a> official told the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n<h2>Katie Britt and Rick Scott are among those seen as close allies<\/h2>\n<p><span>Trump warmed to these lawmakers over their early support of his 2024 campaign and their backing of his legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;These are all guys he likes to hang around personally too,&#8217; the White House official added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Other notable Senators that have reportedly close ties to Trump include Katie Britt of Alabama and Rick Scott of Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One senior GOP Senate aide told the Daily Mail that Britt was the first to mind when asked about who is closest to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>They noted how Britt, who took office in 2023, was mentored by Graham.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Nobody can fill Senator [Lindsey] Grahams void. Nobody. None of us,&#8217; Britt said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>When Darline Graham Nordone entered the Senate to be sworn into her late brother&#8217;s vacant seat, she was flanked by Britt and Senate Republican Leader John Thune.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump has reportedly had issues with Britt in the past.<\/p>\n<h2>Britt previously criticized one of Trump&#8217;s social media posts<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this year, after Trump posted a video depicting former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as an apes, which was deleted soon after posting, Britt condemned the post.<\/p>\n<p>Later Trump reportedly fumed to aides that Britt was dead to him, CNN reported in February.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Hes close with Rick Scott, but so few people like him,&#8217; another White House official told Politico. &#8216;I could see Katie Britt trying to fill that void.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>However, the White House pushed back on Trump playing any favorites.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;President Trump enjoys close relationships with many Republican senators and looks forward to working closely with them to get the SAVE America Act across the finish line,&#8217; White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the Daily Mail, raising the legislation that Trump has been demanding to reform US election practices.<\/p>\n<p>In Graham&#8217;s absence it is an open question as to who will be the President&#8217;s next BFF.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mol-65c3df60-805f-11f1-bc34-ed17f27b8bac\">\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@dailymail\/video\/7661555699398315277\" data-video-id=\"7661555699398315277\">\n<section> <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"@dailymail\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@dailymail?refer=embed\">@dailymail<\/a> U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has died at the age of 71 after a &#8216;brief and sudden illness.&#8217; Emergency services responded to a &#8216;cardiac arrest&#8217; at Graham&#8217;s home in Washington DC on Saturday night, NBC News reported. It comes just days after he visited Ukraine and met with the country&#8217;s president Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion. His meeting with the leader of Ukraine is understood to be the last public image of him. <a title=\"lindseygraham\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/lindseygraham?refer=embed\">#lindseygraham<\/a> <a title=\"senator\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/senator?refer=embed\">#senator<\/a> <a title=\"usa\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/usa?refer=embed\">#usa<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" title=\" snowfall - neheart &#038; reidenshi\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/music\/snowfall-7043672073613936641?refer=embed\"> snowfall &#8211; neheart &#038; reidenshi<\/a> <\/section>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<h2>Graham helped secure passage of the First Step Act<\/h2>\n<p>The President has noted that when he had problems with the Senate, the South Carolina Republican was good at mending ties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He could go in and get something approved,&#8217; Trump said in an interview with NBC about Graham, noting his deft political ability.<span>&#8216;He would just get people on his side.  I wouldnt often ask, but if I had a problem with a Democrat he could work it out.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2018, when a criminal reform bill backed by Trump enflamed GOP skeptics on Capitol Hill, Graham helped sell the bill to his Republican counterparts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The First Step Act eventually passed with large bipartisan support, in part due to Graham&#8217;s help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Already the President has tapped several of his other closest Senate GOP allies for larger administration roles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>JD Vance, a former Ohio Senator, was tapped as the President&#8217;s VP, former Florida Senator Marco Rubio was appointed to Secretary of State and former Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin was asked to serve as Homeland Security Secretary after Trump fired Kristi Noem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With their absence, and the death of Graham, the President is left with a smaller roster of close allies in the Senate chamber.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Graham successfully startled two worlds in his work with Trump, keeping one foot in the White House and the other in the Senate &#8211; which has caused headaches for the President recently.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has railed against the filibuster and has called on the tradition-loving Senate to get rid of the 200-year-old practice so that he could more easily pass legislation that supports his agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican President has also called on Thune to fire the Senate Parliamentarian, a civilian position that can weigh in on what certain legislation can and cannot include.<\/p>\n<p><span>Senate Republicans have not answered Trump&#8217;s calls on either front and Graham was opposed to abolishing the filibuster and firing the parliamentarian.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But as Trump looks for eager allies to do his bidding on Capitol Hill, some aides say that the President has an array of options to choose from.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8216;[Senator John] Barrasso and Trump are extremely close,&#8217; another senior GOP Senate aide said of the second most powerful Republican in the Senate, noting that the pair speak often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A third Republican Senate staffer pointed to Senator Tommy Tuberville, who they claim talks to Trump about everything from football to Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As Senators jockey to get access to Trump&#8217;s ear, it remains to be seen who can fill the shoes Graham left behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span>Share your thoughts with us in the comments<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Lindsey Grahammorphed slowly but emphatically into one of Donald Trump&#8216;s loudest cheerleaders.
