President Donald Trump<\/a> abruptly cancelled the signing of a bipartisan housing affordability bill today, putting the fate of the legislation into limbo, as punishment for unruly Republicans.<\/p>\n

Trump took to his Truth Social account with the news just hours before the planned signing, saying he refuses to green-light the housing bill until Congress<\/a> passes the SAVE America Act – an election measure he has been pushing hard during his second term.<\/p>\n

‘Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,’ he posted.<\/p>\n

But the top Republican in the Senate<\/a> – John Thune – has publicly admitted the President’s signature voting bill doesn’t have enough support by the GOP<\/a>to pass.<\/p>\n

On their way to the Senate lunch after he nixed the signing, Trump walked in with the Senate Majority Leader, patting his back softly.<\/p>\n

President Trump told reporters that that the SAVE America Act needs to be passed first because ‘they want a lot of communists to come in.’<\/p>\n

Thune steered clear of the press before joining Trump outside the luncheon, and declined to comment on the status or any movement on the SAVE America Act in the chamber.<\/p>\n

‘Leader Thune, what’s the path on save America Act?’ one reporter managed as he brusquely turned the corner.<\/p>\n

After their meeting, President Trump briefly spoke with reporters, saying the lunch went well, but that there were a ‘few people’ he didn’t like.<\/p>\n

The Daily Mail spoke with Sen. RickScott after the lunch, who described Trump’s conversation with Sen. Bill Cassidy as ‘forceful.’<\/p>\n

He said of Trump, ‘You know, you’ve been around the person. He was pretty forceful… but I think people were receptive,’ he said.<\/p>\n

The President is using the housing bill as a bargaining chip to seal the deal.<\/p>\n

The SAVE America Act would effectively overhaul elections in 50 states and also add more requirements like proof of citizenship and mandatory voter ID.<\/p>\n

He plans to march down to Capitol Hill himself on Wednesday to stare the GOP dissenters face-to-face in what is expected to be an explosive closed-door meeting.<\/p>\n

Trump’s anger comes the day after four Republicans voted to limit his Iran war powers, in an extraordinary rebuke.<\/p>\n

And he’s had resistance from the right on passing an extension to a powerful ‘spy tool’ – FISA Section 702 – because of his more radical choice to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Bill Pulte.<\/p>\n

The President was forced into a u-turn after Republicans revolted against Pulte, and instead tapped Jay Clayton, who was the US Attorney running the Southern District of New York.<\/p>\n

Republicans waiting for Trump to arrive at the Capitol seemed unsurprised at the ongoing drama.<\/p>\n

Outgoing GOP Senator John Cornyn of Texas told the Daily Mail that they don’t have ‘the votes’ to pass the SAVE Act.<\/p>\n

Trump is still planning to attend a weekly Senate Republican lunch today. He was invited by Sen. Rick Scott, and they planned to discuss the SAVE act, along with other issues<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

‘At some point, we got to deal with reality,’ he said bluntly.<\/p>\n

The MAGA-aligned Senator, who was snubbed by Trump in the primary after he endorsed his opponent Ken Paxton, said it could be an issue in the upcoming midterm elections.<\/p>\n
