{"id":72944,"date":"2026-06-06T15:08:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T18:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/06\/06\/surging-democrat-in-hot-button-race-exposed-for-two-faced-problem-that-could-alienate-97-percent-of-key-demographic\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T15:08:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T18:08:00","slug":"surging-democrat-in-hot-button-race-exposed-for-two-faced-problem-that-could-alienate-97-percent-of-key-demographic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/06\/06\/surging-democrat-in-hot-button-race-exposed-for-two-faced-problem-that-could-alienate-97-percent-of-key-demographic\/","title":{"rendered":"Surging Democrat in hot-button race exposed for two-faced &#8216;problem&#8217; that could alienate 97 percent of key demographic"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>Sherrod Brown spent three decades claiming he&#8217;s fighting for Ohio farmers.<\/p>\n<p>But in one bold move, he backed legislation that left 97 percent of them out.<\/p>\n<p>The 73-year-old Democrat is mounting a comeback bid for his old Senate seat, attempting to unseat Republican Jon Husted, who was appointed after <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/jd-vance\/index.html\" id=\"mol-7f1e6070-549a-11f1-8b7b-5fe2cdc67136\">JD Vance<\/a> vacated the post for the vice presidency.<\/p>\n<p>But as Brown&#8217;s campaign gains momentum, a glaring vulnerability has come to light.<\/p>\n<p>During his final Senate term, Brown co-sponsored the Emergency Relief for Farmers of Color Act of 2021, a bill that explicitly excludes white farmers from its benefits.<\/p>\n<p>In Ohio, USDA data shows white farmers operate 97 percent of the state&#8217;s farms.<\/p>\n<p>The full bill never passed, but Brown successfully pushed its provisions into the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the sweeping Biden-era COVID relief package.<\/p>\n<p>Now he wants those same Ohio farmers to send him back to Washington.<\/p>\n<p><span>A <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/fox_may-28-june-1-2026_complete_ohio_topline_june-3-release.pdf\">Fox News Poll<\/a> released this week found Brown to be ahead of Husted, 53 percent to 45 percent, in a race that&#8217;s shaping up to be one of the most-watched Senate races of the 2026 cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Democratic Ohio Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, a former three-term U.S. senator, speaks at a primary election night campaign event in Cleveland, Tuesday, May 5, 2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Leonard Hubert and his wife, Gail on the their farm in Granville, Ohio<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A March 2021 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/newsroom\/majority\/brown-votes-to-pass-american-rescue-plan-to-get-all-americans-vaccinated-and-support-workers-communities-and-small-businesses\">press release<\/a>from the Senate banking committee, which Brown led at the time, makes no mention of the farming provisions or of the state&#8217;s agricultural industry at all.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard Hubert, a black farmer who served as the USDA&#8217;s Farm Service Agency State Executive Director in the first Trump administration, told the Daily Mail that Brown may have intentionally tried to hide his actions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Maybe [Brown] didn&#8217;t want everybody to know,&#8217; about his support for the legislation, Hubert suggested.<\/p>\n<p>That comes as the Senate hopeful has a &#8216;fairly good reputation with Ohio farmers,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hubert also noted thatwhen you &#8216;look at the top 10 states where black farmers exist, obviously, Ohio is not one.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Hubert found Brown&#8217;s support of the legislation odd, noting, &#8216;when you&#8217;ve been part of the institution for so long, and you&#8217;ve been in a position where you can affect change, then why don&#8217;t you do that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If USDA or any particular agency is a problem, why don&#8217;t you find a real solution to fix the problem, as opposed to adding something else to it, which, from my perspective, creates another problem,&#8217; Hubert added.<\/p>\n<p>The Brown campaign did not respond to a Daily Mail request for comment about his support for the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio is home to over<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/usafacts.org\/articles\/farmer-demographics\/\">136,000 farmers<\/a>, the fourth most of any state in the country, and they are a key constituency Brown is aiming to appeal to.
