{"id":69465,"date":"2026-05-29T14:38:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/05\/29\/maradona-death-trial-psychiatrist-says-the-family-agreed-to-home-care\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T14:38:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:38:19","slug":"maradona-death-trial-psychiatrist-says-the-family-agreed-to-home-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/05\/29\/maradona-death-trial-psychiatrist-says-the-family-agreed-to-home-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Maradona death trial: psychiatrist says the family agreed to home care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \t\t\t\t\t                       \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t Agustina Cosachov, the psychiatrist who treated Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona, testified during the trial over the former football star\u2019s death that his family was \u201cin agreement\u201d with the plan to place him in home care, something that, according to an investigation, contributed to his untimely demise in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>    The psychiatrist, one of eight people who stand accused of failing to administer proper medical care to Maradona, asked to testify in the latest hearing on Thursday, giving her version of events.<\/p>\n<p>    She said she began treating Maradona after being recommended to the star\u2019s primary physician, Leopoldo Luque, and sought to challenge the family\u2019s claim that she and Luque had pushed for at-home care.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cIn my opinion, the best solution was taking him to a rehabilitation center, as [medical services provider] Swiss Medical suggested,\u201d she said. \u201cBut Maradona was a patient in full use of his capacities, and he wanted to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    During her testimony, Cosachov showed chats in which she asked Maradona\u2019s family whether they agreed with the home care proposal. She read a reply from one of Maradona\u2019s children saying a \u201cwell-thought-out home hospitalization\u201d would be \u201cperfect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    She also said she had requested a full team of doctors and nurses, along with the necessary medical equipment, to be available at the home and received approval from the provider, though many of those resources were ultimately never supplied.<\/p>\n<p>    \u2018Everybody signed in agreement\u2019    The other witness of the day was Mariana Flichman, the medical examiner who prepared Maradona\u2019s discharge papers from the Olivos Clinic, where he underwent surgery to remove a hematoma from his head.<\/p>\n<p>    Flichman said that the \u201cdoctors didn\u2019t believe it was safe\u201d to take Maradona to home care and \u201cwanted the decision documented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    She also noted there was a meeting between the clinic doctors, Maradona\u2019s team, and the family, during which the discharge document was read aloud and \u201ceverybody signed in agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    However, Flichman contradicted Cosachov\u2019s statement, saying the medical services provider offered \u201chome care\u201d rather than hospitalization, and \u201ceveryone knew what they were signing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    She added that the discharge document established that the medical services provider\u2019s original proposal was for Maradona to continue \u201cpsychiatric, clinical, rehabilitation, and toxicological treatment through inpatient care at a rehabilitation center with a psychiatric team\u201d and that this was rejected by the family.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agustina Cosachov, the psychiatrist who treated Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona, testified during the trial over the former football star\u2019s death that his family was \u201cin agreement\u201d with the plan to place him in home care, something that, according to an investigation, contributed to his untimely demise in 2020.
