\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t Social organizations, trade unions and healthcare workers are set to march on Argentina\u2019s Health Ministry on Wednesday as from 1 p.m. to protest President Javier Milei\u2019s budget cuts amid growing concern over the deterioration of the country\u2019s public health system.<\/p>\n
The \u201cFederal March for Public Health\u201d aims to shed light on the impact of spending cuts on hospitals, medicine programs and vaccination campaigns nationwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to the health advocacy group Fundaci\u00f3n Soberan\u00eda Sanitaria (Health Sovereignty Foundation), spending in the Health Ministry fell 34% in the first two years of the libertarian government that came into power in December 2023.<\/p>\n
Organizers warn that key initiatives such as the Remediar (Remedy) program \u2014 which provided free essential medicines to millions \u2014 have been scaled back or interrupted, while vaccine distribution has reportedly faced delays and shortages in several provinces.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cuts are beginning to be felt in every hospital, every health center, and by every patient who cannot access treatment,\u201d said Manuel Fonseca, a member of the advocacy group Foro por el Derecho a la Salud (Forum for the Right to Health), one of the organizations behind the protest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He argued that the cuts disproportionately affect vulnerable sectors that rely exclusively on the public healthcare system.<\/p>\n
\u2018Health cannot wait\u2019 The demonstration, held under the slogan \u201cHealth Cannot Wait,\u201d is expected to bring together unions, medical associations, students and healthcare workers from across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Protesters will march from the Health Ministry building in downtown Buenos Aires toward Plaza de Mayo, in fron of the presidential palace, the Casa Rosada.<\/p>\n
The mobilization comes amid broader tensions over the Milei administration\u2019s austerity policies, which have also sparked protests by universities and provincial governments over cuts to education and social spending.<\/p>\n
