{"id":56020,"date":"2026-04-24T15:15:45","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T18:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/maradona-death-trial-no-defibrillator-no-ventilator-and-no-oxygen-in-the-room-says-first-responder\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T15:15:45","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T18:15:45","slug":"maradona-death-trial-no-defibrillator-no-ventilator-and-no-oxygen-in-the-room-says-first-responder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/maradona-death-trial-no-defibrillator-no-ventilator-and-no-oxygen-in-the-room-says-first-responder\/","title":{"rendered":"Maradona death trial: \u2018No defibrillator, no ventilator, and no oxygen in the room,\u2019 says first responder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \t\t\t\t\t                       \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t Day four in the trial over the death of Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona started on Thursday, with the testimony of several law enforcement and medical witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>    The key witness was Juan Carlos Pinto, the doctor who signed Maradona\u2019s death certificate.<\/p>\n<p>    Pinto, who works as an ambulance paramedic, said he received a call involving a high-risk patient in the gated community where Maradona lived.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    Upon arrival, he met with a doctor, a fellow resident of the private neighborhood where Maradona had rented a house, who had been called by the neighborhood security team after they were alerted that the former star needed attention.<\/p>\n<p>    According to Pinto, the doctor told him there was \u201cnothing to do\u201d. In the room, he found two people, a man and a woman, doing CPR on the former star.<\/p>\n<p>    Pinto said Maradona \u201cdidn\u2019t have a pulse\u201d when he got to the house and \u201clooked like a balloon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cThe patient was dead,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was severely edematous, with a very swollen face, swollen limbs, and a distended abdomen. He also had cadaveric livor, which are patches of skin that become rigid between 2 and 5 hours after death and were already fixed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    He insisted Maradona never showed any \u201csigns of reaction\u201d during CPR and highlighted that there was \u201cno defibrillator, no ventilator, and no oxygen tanks\u201d in the house.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cThere was nothing to indicate that the patient was receiving home care, nothing at all,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>    Pinto said the family requested he continue performing CPR on Maradona. Here\u2019s all you need to know<\/p>\n<p>    \u2018Just like any other room\u2019    The judges also heard testimony from policeman Lucas Far\u00edas, who was the first officer to arrive at the house where Maradona died.<\/p>\n<p>    According to Far\u00edas, he was sent over by his boss after reports of a medical emergency at the gated community.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cWhen I arrived, they handed me the death certificate and told me he had passed,\u201d he said, adding that Maradona \u201cwasn\u2019t responding\u201d and that he was \u201ccovered up with a blanket and extremely swollen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Far\u00edas insisted the room where Maradona lived was \u201ca regular room, just like in any regular house\u201d and that it didn\u2019t look \u201clike a place where a person is receiving medical attention .\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cThere was a plate with a sandwich on the desk, sporting clothes everywhere, a bottle of water,\u201d Far\u00edas described. \u201cA regular room, just like the one at my house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    After that, the prosecution showed a 17-minute video recorded by the forensic police on the day of the death.<\/p>\n<p>    Forensic police director Cristian M\u00e9ndez said after the video was shown that it was filmed to \u201cunderstand the circumstances of the incident,\u201d and agreed with Far\u00edas that there were \u201ca few bottles of water and some medication, but nothing else\u201d in the room.<\/p>\n<p>    Luque strikes back    After Pinto, Maradona\u2019s main medical advisor, Leopoldo Luque, asked to testify for the third straight hearing, this time to respond to the testimony given during the last hearing by Maradona\u2019s second daughter Giannina, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>    He rejected \u201cthe idea of any manipulation intended to benefit anyone other than Maradona\u201d and said that the audio messages of him speaking poorly of Maradona\u2019s family were \u201cmade in a context of extreme frustration and tension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Maradona died from an acute pulmonary edema in 2020. The trial centers around the circumstances of his death and the attention he received from his doctors and nurses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    Eight people stand accused of failing to administer proper medical care to Maradona, chiefly Luque as his main medical advisor, as well as his psychiatrist, Agustina Cosachov, and psychologist, Carlos D\u00edaz.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    This will be the second time the proceeding goes ahead, after the first court case was declared a mistrial in May 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Day four in the trial over the death of Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona started on Thursday, with the testimony of several law enforcement and medical witnesses.
