One clip of the message and the player\u2019s reactions quickly reached over 1 million views on X.<\/p>\n
The video, in which Lago\u2019s boyfriend greeted him as a surprise, was shown during an interview the Col\u00f3n de Santa Fe player did for club-sponsored show Sangre y Luto in May of last year. The footage was later uploaded to the club\u2019s YouTube channel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The footage, which aired while the player was being interviewed, shows Lago\u2019s boyfriend thanking him for being \u201ca wonderful person and excellent professional.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know how much work you put in and what your dreams are. I love you a lot and thank you for defending the colors of my city,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Talking later to the show\u2019s hosts, Lago called it an \u201cirrational love just like football\u201d and said that they \u201cconstantly try to express their feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite many Argentine outlets treating the news as if Lago had made an official coming-out announcement, the truth is that the player made no comments on the topic during the interview. Lago regularly shares stories with his boyfriend on his Instagram.<\/p>\n
To date, Lago is the only male professional Argentine footballer to openly discuss his homosexuality. Goalkeeper Nicol\u00e1s Fern\u00e1ndez, the first footballer to do so in 2020, played for a semi-pro side in a regional La Pampa province league.<\/p>\n
Lago, a 23-year-old striker, hails from Isidro Casanova in Buenos Aires Province and has been on fire recently with Col\u00f3n, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven matches so far.\u00a0<\/p>\n
