\u2014 Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) October 27, 2025 The war of words between began last week when Bessent called Warren an \u201cAmerican Peronist\u201d after she questioned President Donald Trump\u2019s controversial decision to provide a support package for the Argentine government. The economic lifeline included a US$40 billion bailout to help Milei stabilize the economy and strengthen his party\u2019s chances in\u00a0Sunday\u2019s election.<\/p>\n
The bailout package has sparked harsh criticism both in Argentina and in the U.S. amid the government shutdown and Trump\u2019s healthcare and food aid cuts.<\/p>\n
War of words Bessent defended the financial aid for Argentina once again, saying that the U.S. government\u2019s support of Milei \u201ccreated hope for a private sector solution to ends decades of economic mismanagement and poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWarren should be ashamed for trying to derail a better life for the most vulnerable citizens of a valuable US ally,\u201d Bessent wrote in an X post. He asked her to \u201cvote to reopen the government now.\u201d<\/p>\n
