\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t United States President Donald Trump congratulated his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei, on his \u201clandslide victory\u201d in Sunday\u2019s national midterms and said he had \u201ca lot of help\u201d from the U.S. administration. Ruling party La Libertad Avanza (LLA) came in first in the legislative race with over 40% of the vote.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a big victor, and he had a lot of help from us. I gave him a very strong endorsement,\u201d Trump told the press at the White House on Monday He went on to say that he thought the win was \u201creally unexpected,\u201d referencing the sizable difference of almost ten points above Peronism.<\/p>\n
Trump also made a point to \u201cgive a lot of credit\u201d to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. \u201cWe\u2019re focused very much on South America, and we\u2019re getting a real strong handle on South America, in a lot of ways, including the fact that we don\u2019t want their drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The U.S. president had already sent Milei congratulations on Sunday night after the results were released. \u201cHe is doing a wonderful job! Our confidence in him was justified by the People of Argentina,\u201d he wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s words were a reference to the bailout package his government signed with the Milei administration ahead of the election. The package includes a US$20 billion currency swap agreement, a credit line, the purchase of Argentine pesos and bonds by the U.S. treasury, and an additional US$20 billion private fund facility.<\/p>\n
Milei flew to Washington D.C. in mid-October to ratify the agreement in a meeting with Trump. During a press conference the two shared at the White House, the U.S. president said that his government\u2019s support was predicated on Milei doing well in the upcoming elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would not be generous with Argentina if he loses,\u201d Trump said at the time, referencing Milei. \u201cIf he doesn\u2019t win, we\u2019re not going to waste that time, because you have somebody whose philosophy has no chance of making Argentina great again,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Javier Milei (@JMilei) October 27, 2025 Milei took to social media on Monday to thank Trump for \u201ctrusting in the Argentine people,\u201d adding that he is \u201ca great friend\u201d of Argentina. \u201cOur countries should have never stopped being allies. Count on me to give the battle for Wester civilization, which managed to get 90% of the world population out of poverty,\u201d he wrote on X. He finished his post with the acronym \u201cMAGA\u201d and the emojis of the Argentine and U.S. flags joined by shaking hands.<\/p>\n

Milei also thanked Bessent\u2019s words via a post on X, writing in English, saying that the U.S.\u2019 \u201cbold vision of Peace through Economic Strength resonates deeply\u201d with his \u201ccrusade for liberty.\u201d He added that the relationship between the two countries will \u201cpave the way for unprecedented investment, innovation, and growth\u201d and unleash \u201cthe full potential of Latin America as a beacon of free enterprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTogether, we will build a future where chainsaws cut through bureaucracy, not dreams,\u201d Milei said.<\/p>\n
