{"id":36962,"date":"2026-02-19T17:18:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/02\/19\/trump-hails-killer-marco-rubio-as-red-faced-jd-vance-eyes-2028-threat-in-cringe-moment\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T17:18:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:18:00","slug":"trump-hails-killer-marco-rubio-as-red-faced-jd-vance-eyes-2028-threat-in-cringe-moment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/02\/19\/trump-hails-killer-marco-rubio-as-red-faced-jd-vance-eyes-2028-threat-in-cringe-moment\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump hails &#8216;killer&#8217; Marco Rubio as red-faced JD Vance eyes 2028 threat in cringe moment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article-text\">\n<p>By <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/profile-708\/katelyn-caralle.html\">KATELYN CARALLE, SENIOR U.S. POLITICAL REPORTER<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><span> <span>Published:<\/span> <time datetime=\"2026-02-19T20:09:14+0000\"> 15:09 EST, 19 February 2026 <\/time> <\/span> | <span> <span>Updated:<\/span> <time datetime=\"2026-02-19T20:18:45+0000\"> 15:18 EST, 19 February 2026 <\/time> <\/span> <\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p><a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/donald_trump\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6db7b370-0dc5-11f1-aefb-ab40f41afd8d\" class>Donald Trump<\/a>drew a candid distinction between his two leading successors at his first Board of Peace meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The president lavished praise on Secretary of State <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/marco_rubio\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6dc2aff0-0dc5-11f1-aefb-ab40f41afd8d\">Marco Rubio<\/a>&#8216;s &#8216;velvet glove&#8217; approach to his &#8216;killer&#8217; diplomacy efforts, and said that Vice President <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/jd-vance\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6dbce390-0dc5-11f1-aefb-ab40f41afd8d\">JD Vance<\/a> can be &#8216;a little bit tough on occasion.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Rubio and Vance are widely considered the two most likely politicians to inherit the crown for the MAGA empire after Trump&#8217;s second term ends  that is if he doesn&#8217;t make good on his threat to defy the US Constitution and run for a third term.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has remained coy when publicly discussing both of their political futures, but joked in front of world leaders in Washington, <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/washington-dc\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6dd28e70-0dc5-11f1-aefb-ab40f41afd8d\">DC<\/a> on Thursday that he might fire Rubio because he&#8217;s showing him up on the world stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Marco, you really did yourself proud two days ago in Munich,&#8217; he said of the Secretary of State&#8217;s remarks at the Security Conference in <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/germany\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6dd2b580-0dc5-11f1-aefb-ab40f41afd8d\">Germany<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;In fact, so proud that I almost terminated his employ (sic) because they were saying &#8216;why can&#8217;t Trump do this?&#8217; I do, but I say it differently,&#8217; Trump joked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But Marco, don&#8217;t do any better than you did, please  because if you do, you&#8217;re out of here!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Rubio bashfully smiled and shook his head why Trump showered praises on him.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump showered praise on his two most likely successors during his first Board of Peace meeting in Washington, DC on Thursday, February 19, 2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Vice President JD Vance laughed as Trump said he is the &#8216;opposite extreme&#8217; from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who the president claimed is does diplomacy with a &#8216;velvet glove but it&#8217;s a kill&#8217;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It came directly after the president said &#8216;best friend&#8217; Vance was the &#8216;opposite extreme&#8217; from Rubio and had to be pulled back sometimes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He&#8217;s a brilliant guy, and a great guy JD&#8217;s been great,&#8217; Trump said. &#8216;He gets a little bit tough, on occasion.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have to slow him down, just a little bit on occasion. He says his mind,&#8217; the president explained.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said of the duo that while &#8216;the result is the same, they do it very differently.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of world leaders gathered in-person and virtually on Thursday for Trump&#8217;s inaugural Board of Peace meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The president delivered remarks at the top of the event where he gave a sermon on the high price of war and said that peace is much more cost effective.<\/p>\n<p>It came in the same remarks where Trump threatened Iran with more strikes if they do no work to reach a nuclear peace deal in the next 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, US military assets including ships, aircraft and submarines have been repositioning in the region to prepare for bombing Iran after talks broke down in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio has moved to tamp down any suggestion of a rivalry with Vance, telling Vanity Fair in December that &#8216;if JD Vance runs for president, he&#8217;s going to be our nominee, and I&#8217;ll be one of the first people to support him.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Vance, for his part, has called Rubio his &#8216;closest friend in the administration.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of the two men running together on a future ticket  without explicitly saying who should lead it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>                                                                                                                                  <ad-slot position=\"smart_feed\"><\/ad-slot>                                                                <ad-slot position=\"after_article\"><\/ad-slot>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By KATELYN CARALLE, SENIOR U.S. POLITICAL REPORTER Published: 15:09 EST, 19 February 2026 | Updated: 15:18 EST, 19 February 2026 Donald Trumpdrew a candid distinction between his two leading successors at his first Board of Peace meeting.
