{"id":25631,"date":"2026-01-13T18:15:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T21:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/01\/13\/major-afa-sponsor-withdraws-payments-and-requests-tapias-resignation\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T18:15:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T21:15:29","slug":"major-afa-sponsor-withdraws-payments-and-requests-tapias-resignation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/01\/13\/major-afa-sponsor-withdraws-payments-and-requests-tapias-resignation\/","title":{"rendered":"Major AFA sponsor withdraws payments and requests Tapia\u2019s resignation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \t\t\t                       \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t Argentine Football Association (AFA) sponsor Socios.com announced on Tuesday it\u2019ll be withdrawing its support for the governing body until president Claudio \u201cChiqui\u201d Tapia resigns.<\/p>\n<p>    The company, one of the AFA\u2019s biggest sponsors since 2020, decided to halt money transfers to AFA intermediaries and requested an audit of Argentine football\u2019s governing body.<\/p>\n<p>    The news, originally reported by Argentine outlet La Naci\u00f3n, was later confirmed by company CEO Alexandre Dreyfus through his X account.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cTransparency in football is non-negotiable,\u201d Dreyfus wrote. \u201cToday, Socios.com has officially halted payments to \u2018intermediaries\u2019 associated with the [AFA] and requested the resignation of [Tapia].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Dreyfus added that, since 2021, the company has transferred over US$9 million, and found it \u2018disgusting\u2019 that reports suggest now only US$500,000 actually reached AFA\u2019s coffers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cWe refuse to continue funding offshore entities that have provided zero services to us,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have demanded a full audit and requested that future payments go strictly and directly to the AFA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Dreyfus called on other AFA sponsors such as Adidas, American Express and Coca-Cola to join them, saying \u201ccollective action\u201d is required in the interest of \u201cthe integrity of the football industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Socios.com    Socios.com is a blockchain-based platform that allows fans to purchase \u201cFan Tokens\u201d which lets them influence minor club decisions through voting, access promotions, and participate in games, using cryptocurrency Chiliz.<\/p>\n<p>    The company also works with some of the biggest names in football such as European giants FC Barcelona, PSG and Manchester City, as well as South American powerhouses like Flamengo, River Plate and Independiente, and teams from other sports.<\/p>\n<p>    It\u2019s not the first time Socios.com and the AFA have clashed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    In 2021, a judicial mediation was required as both parties filed complaints against each other due to breach of contract, with the company requesting information on who the beneficiaries of the payments were. However, the deal was extended through to 2026 in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>    Tapia \u2018not worried\u2019 about corruption scandal    As controversies mount around him, Tapia distanced himself from the scandals,\u00a0 saying he\u2019s \u201cnot worried\u201d about the barrage of accusations linking him to money laundering, corruption and other crimes.<\/p>\n<p>    The AFA president has been in the spotlight since the end of last year, as Argentine football\u2019s governing body has been linked to money laundering claims involving financial firm Sur Finanzas and corruption allegations, which got Tapia reported to South American football confederation CONMEBOL\u2019s ethics committee.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cIt\u2019s two different realities, the one in the media and the one you see around people,\u201d he told La Nacion on Tuesday. \u201cI don\u2019t pay attention to the other stuff, it\u2019s all just in the media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    The AFA boss assured he\u2019s \u201cnot worried\u201d since so far he hasn\u2019t been formally charged.<\/p>\n<p>    Tapia is on vacation at quintessential Argentine beach town Mar del Plata, where he insists fans give him continuous shows of affection, something he admitted to enjoy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cMy legs hurt from sitting down and standing up for the photos, my knees are wrecked,\u201d he joked. \u201cEverywhere I go it\u2019s like this. This is real life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Tapia said he used to be worried about his family being affected by the news, but hasn\u2019t since his children became adults.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    The AFA boss is father to three sons and a daughter.
