{"id":23730,"date":"2026-01-06T21:58:55","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T00:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/01\/06\/venezuela-machado-says-she-wants-to-give-trump-her-nobel-peace-prize\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T21:58:55","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T00:58:55","slug":"venezuela-machado-says-she-wants-to-give-trump-her-nobel-peace-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/service.codeus.ca\/index.php\/2026\/01\/06\/venezuela-machado-says-she-wants-to-give-trump-her-nobel-peace-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela: Machado says she wants to give Trump her Nobel Peace Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \t\t\t                       \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t Venezuelan opposition leader Mar\u00eda Corina Machado announced she is planning to return to her country \u201cas soon as possible\u201d and said she wants to give her recently-awarded Nobel Peace Prize to United States President Donald Trump to thank him for his government\u2019s military operation in Venezuela to capture Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>    In an interview with Fox News, she said she wants to meet with the U.S. leader to personally tell him that she \u201cand the Venezuelan people\u201d want to \u201cgive it to him, share it with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Her comments come amid rumors in the U.S. press that Trump snubbed her and didn\u2019t support her as a replacement for Maduro because she accepted the prize, instead of conceding it to him.<\/p>\n<p>    A report by The Washington Post quoting two people close to the White House said that Trump\u2019s sudden disinterest in supporting Machado\u2019s leadership stemmed from the fact that she accepted the award instead of giving it to him directly.<\/p>\n<p>    Other outlets, including The New York Times, suggested the snub had to do with the fact that Machado and her party would have issues running the country because they don\u2019t have enough influence over the Venezuelan armed forces and could even further destabilize the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    Trump has publicly said that Machado \u201cdoesn\u2019t have the respect within the country,\u201d to run it.<\/p>\n<p>    Instead, the U.S. government is working with former Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, who was sworn in as interim president on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cWhat he has done is historic, it\u2019s a huge step for the democratic transition,\u201d Machado stated regarding the attack carried out by U.S. forces in the early hours of Saturday in Caracas and neighboring areas.<\/p>\n<p>    Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 10. She dedicated the award to Trump for his support to her cause. In the interview, she said the two spoke on the day the prize was announced, but that they haven\u2019t spoken since.<\/p>\n<p>    She added that January 3 \u201cwill go down in history as the day justice defeated a tyranny\u201d and that it was a milestone not only for Venezuelans but also for \u201chumanity, freedom and human dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Return to Venezuela    Machado said that she is planning to return to Venezuela \u201cas soon as possible.\u201d She spent several months in hiding in her own country before leaving last month to attend the Nobel Prize ceremony in Norway, and her whereabouts are currently unknown due to security reasons.<\/p>\n<p>    The opposition leader stated that after her party \u201cwon by a landslide\u201d in the July 2024 presidential elections \u201cunder fraudulent conditions,\u201d she trusts that \u201cin free and fair elections\u201d they will \u201cwin with over 90% of the vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez Urrutia \u2014 currently exiled in Spain \u2014 ran for president in 2024 replacing Machado after she was banned from taking part in the elections by the Maduro administration. In a recent video, he celebrated the U.S. operation and called himself the \u201cpresident of Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Machado added that if her party, Vente Venezuela, were to rule, they would dismantle \u201cthe criminal hub of the Americas\u201d \u2014 as she referred to her country\u00a0 \u2014 and turn it into a \u201csecurity shield,\u201d while also making the country \u201cthe energy hub of the Americas,\u201d opening markets and \u201cbringing security\u201d to foreign investments.
