RCMP say speed \u201cplayed an important factor\u201d in the collision, in which a 17-year-old driver lost control of their vehicle.Rasul-Jankovics\u2019s parents have been frustrated at the length of the investigation, and expressed concern that they don\u2019t even know if the driver has been allowed back on the road. Juan de Fuca-Malahat NDP MLA Dana Lajeunesse says he\u2019s met with the family several times and is now introducing amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act which he says would help keep roads safer.They include giving police the power to suspend drivers suspected of reckless driving for up to 30 days.It also includes a requirement to report any instance of reckless driving to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles \u2014 in order to track those with multiple citations and impose harsher punishments as needed.
