The CCGS Conception Bay, as well as a fixed-wing aircraft and a Cormorant helicopter, were sent to the area.Article contentOne of the vessels that responded was able to pull two of the three from the water, including a survivor. Later, the helicopter recovered one of the deceased from a nearby shoreline.Article content“Now is a time to grieve and support the families, so let’s fully embrace Harbour Round,” wrote Baie Verte-Green Bay MHA Lin Paddock in a social media statement. “For those in peril on the sea.”Article contentMessages of supportArticle contentSince news of the tragedy started to spread, tributes to the two lost have been sent in from far and wide, wtih federal MP Clifford Small and federal Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson also offering their condolences on the tragedy, amongst others.Article contentArticle content“It opens fresh wounds for those of us that have experienced loss at sea, and it is also a sad reminder that our fishing industry is a dangerous profession,” Paddock wrote. “Thinking of all the families now as they deal with the repercussions of a regular fishing day, where one of their own did not come home.”Article contentArticle contentNewfoundland and Labrador Premier Tony Wakeham also sent along his condolences on the losses.Article content“We are thinking of everyone affected, including the survivor, and hope they find strength in the support of their community during this incredibly difficult time,” he said.Article contentProvincial Liberal leader John Hogan also expressed his remorse about the tragedy and the lives lost near Harbour Round.Article content“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the two fishermen, the surviving member of the crew, and their entire communities as they grieve this heartbreaking loss,” wrote Hogan. “Thank you to the many heroic first responders who aided in the rescue efforts.”Article content
