Harris, 40, appeared in court by video from the Provincial Correctional Centre.Article contentArticle contentArticle contentWith the guilty plea in place, federal Crown attorney Kegan Bradley told the court that in April, Charlottetown police received reliable information that Harris was trafficking cocaine and was being driven around by his friend (and female co-accused) in a 2008 grey Toyota Yaris.Article contentIn April and May, Harris was observed by police on multiple occasions via e-watch cameras engaged in drug transactions with various people known for the drug trade. On April 24, police received a tracking device warrant for the Toyota.Article contentOn May 6, a licence plate recognition system captured the Yaris in Borden-Carleton leaving P.E.I. and then returning later that evening. Then at 8:42 p.m., the Toyota passed a police vehicle in Cornwall and was pulled over on Upton Road. Harris was sitting in the passenger’s seat and the female co-accused was driving.Article contentAt 12:36 a.m. on May 7, police searched the Toyota and located 284.56 grams of cocaine in a green re-usable bag in the back seat, $6,810 in cash, three cellphones, a digital scale, a bowl with cocaine residue, a laptop computer and suspected cutting agents. Harris also had $2,800 in cash when he was searched by police.Article contentArticle contentOn May 11, Charlottetown police obtained video security footage from a gas station convenience store in Timber River, N.B. (about three kilometres from Port Elgin) that shows Harris getting into a blue Audi and exiting a few minutes later with a green re-usable bag. Harris then gets back into the Toyota.Article contentArticle contentHarris has a 17-page prior criminal record, which includes a recent 13-month jail sentence on Dec. 12, 2024, in P.E.I. Supreme Court for possessing 72 grams of cocaine for trafficking purposes. On that sentence, Harris also received two-months concurrent for possession of a prohibited weapon (a switchblade knife).Article contentThe facts of that case also involved Harris travelling frequently to New Brunswick as a passenger in a vehicle to buy drugs. A female co-accused (and the driver) in that matter — Tammy Louise White (now 44 years old) — received an 18-month conditional sentence in P.E.I. Supreme Court for the drug offence.Article contentWith respect to the most recent offence, defence lawyer Brendan Hubley said that his client’s drug dealing activity was in part to support his own significant addiction to cocaine. Harris spoke briefly in court and apologized to anyone his actions may have hurt. He confirmed that he has a drug addiction and said he has taken programs while in custody at the provincial jail. He said that he plans to take more programs while at federal prison.
