So, the World Cup is over, we lost, it’s cold, and everyone seems to hate Argentina these days — or at least that’s what algorithms are constantly pushing into our phones. Good news is we can still play another national sport, this one called fingir demencia (‘just pretend you’re insane’), act like none of that actually happened, and carry on with our lives — especially our weekend.
This one in particular is expected to be both chilly and filled with entertaining options, from film programs to a literary party in Chacarita, jazz and pop legends playing, a citywide cocktail festival, and a slate of food events.
We didn’t get to bring the Cup home, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time. And, as always, the Herald’s got you covered.

Comics and cinema meet once again at the third edition of ¡Esto Es Historieta! (This is Comic Books!), a festival that explores the enduring dialogue between comic art and the moving image, curated by former Mar del Plata Film Festival director Pablo Conde.
Running for 11 days at Sala Lugones, the program features 11 feature films, shorts and the premiere of the first episode of the Chilean documentary series El padre del Cóndor.
Highlights include When We Went Mad, about the legendary Mad magazine, Alain Resnais’ classic Hiroshima mon amour, Santiago MItre’s Pequeña flor and Marcelo Schapces’ documentaries Breccia x4 and Héctor Oesterheld comparte un choripán con sus verdugos.
Jour de Fête: a celebration of French animation July 23 to Aug. 2, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Maya, Give Me a Title French animation takes center stage at Cine York during the winter break with Jour de Fête, a free film series presented in collaboration with the Institut Français. The lineup spans family favorites such as Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia and Chicken for Linda! alongside acclaimed classics including The Triplets of Belleville and Azur & Asmar, plus Michel Gondry’s coming-of-age Maya, Give Me a Title. All films are screened in their original French with Spanish subtitles.

Books, music and food come together at Lectura & Fiesta Amiga, a one-night literary gathering hosted by writers Nadine Lifschitz and Ana Montes. The evening features live readings by writers Santiago Loza, Nicolás Diodovich, Sofía Balbuena and Cecilia Fanti, alongside music by DJ Pasante.
There will also be a special chicken melt pop-up by gastro influencer @estilodepiba.

Cocktail Fest Seven of Buenos Aires’ leading cocktail bars will come together for the second edition of Cocktail Fest: Winter in Buenos Aires, a one-night celebration of the city’s thriving mixology scene. Brukbar, Back Room, Rey de Copas, Baru, Andante, Puerta Uno and Quebracho will each serve an exclusive cocktail inspired by Buenos Aires or one of its neighborhoods.
Electronic music from DJs Matías Sundblad, Cósmica and After Magic will keep the main dome buzzing throughout the evening. Organized by the Argentine Chamber of Cocktail Bars (Cabarco), the adults-only event serves as a prelude to September’s Buenos Aires Cocktail Week.
Tickets include one cocktail, and entry is permitted until 9 p.m. Reservations are limited.

Discover one of Buenos Aires’ most vibrant cultural districts at Abre La Boca, a free open-house event inviting visitors to explore the neighborhood’s museums, galleries, artists’ studios and cultural institutions. Running from noon to 6 p.m., the self-guided circuit includes stops at Fundación Proa, the Benito Quinquela Martín Museum, the Buenos Aires Film Museum, Fundación Larivière, Colón Fábrica (Colón Theater’s workshop), and more. Free shuttle vans will connect participating venues throughout the day, allowing visitors to hop on and off while designing their own itinerary.

Silvino has teamed up with Bodega El Esteco for a special three-course menu available throughout July, with diners choosing one starter, one main course and one dessert. Highlights include potato chips topped with pickled mussels, anchovies and a fried egg, chicken pâté with quince jam and Dijon mustard, and roasted eggplant with goat cheese and almonds.
Main dishes range from gratinéed wild mushroom crêpes to squid amatriciana and marinated pork with pak choi and green curry. Finish with a Basque chocolate cake with orange preserve or a creamy dulce de leche flan, paired with wines from the Salta winery.

Diez Treinta Diez Treinta’s listening bar series Meet the Record returns on Saturday with an evening dedicated to Maria Fumaça, the landmark 1977 debut album by Brazil’s Banda Black Rio.
Organized with Frankie the Fish, the intimate event invites guests to experience the record as it was meant to be heard, on vinyl, while enjoying dinner, wine and conversation. DJ Nachete will curate a special set inspired by the band’s pioneering blend of soul, jazz, funk, disco and samba, while Du Monde Records will bring a selection of vinyl for browsing and purchase.

Narda Comedor celebrated Independence Month with a series of special dinners throughout July, honoring Argentina and five other countries through one-day-only menus inspired by their culinary traditions. Each date spotlights a different culture with dishes available exclusively for that celebration, continuing chef Narda Lepes’ tradition of creating unique seasonal events.
The final edition, on July 28, marks Peru’s Independence Day with Peruvian-style squid chicharrón sandwiches served alongside fried cassava.

Mambo is wrapping up its month-long first anniversary celebrations with a collaborative lunch bringing together chefs Santiago Pérez and Calvin Daniele with special guest Wilson Rodríguez of El Bocadito.
The four-hands menu closes a series of events that paired Mambo’s signature style with the culinary vision of invited chefs, creating one-off dishes and unique dining experiences. Reservations are recommended.
